FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I expect during the inspection?
Per NACHI standards, please expect this inspection to take 2 to 3 hours, as the inspector will thoroughly check all aspects of the house.  You are welcome to accompany the inspector during his visit.  It is recommended, but not required, that young children not attend.
The inspector will look through the entire house, from the basement/crawl space all the way up to the roof and every where in between.  The inspector verifies that none of the appliances are on recall, if any are according to the Product Safety Commission then they will pointed out.
Photos will be taken for your reference.  The photos will be used to assist you in identifying any problem areas, and will be included as part of your comprehensive report.

What is this ‘report’ you refer to?
The Home Inspection report will provide you a comprehensive and unbiased look at your potential new home.  It will show you any defects in the house, suggested maintenance of your new home as well as other important information that you may need in order to make your decision. This report will be provided via the web* (an email will be sent out providing access information) for you to look through at any time.

*For those without internet access, a printed report is available upon request.

What is Radon?
Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that is present around all of us. Radon enters homes through foundations, slab and wall cracks as well as utility and water entrances. Radon gases cannot be detected by human senses.
The Environmental Protection Agency recommends that each home bought or sold should be tested for radon. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, second only to smoking, in the United States.

I know what mold is, but why is it so important that I get that inspected?
There are a number of different types of mold and each of them can affect a person’s health differently.  If you read the paper or watch the news on television you have probably heard how it can cause entire families to become deathly ill or cause them to develop irreversible neurologic issues.  Why take the chance with your family’s health?

Are the Radon and Mold tests part of the inspection?
Radon and Mold testing are separate services, but are discounted when included with a full home inspection.
